Prevalence of Reproductive and Calving Disorders in Murrah Buffaloes at Organized Dairy Herd

The present study was carried out find out the prevalence of reproductive and calving disorders in the Murrah buffaloes at organized dairy herd. Data on 2195 Murrah buffaloes were collected from April 2003 to March 2015 for the study. The percentage of animals affected from different reproductive and calving disorders and effect of various non genetic factors was calculated by proportion using descriptive statistics. Overall prevalence of reproductive disease or calving related disorders in 12 year was 6.06 %. Prevalence of abortion, dystocia, retention of placenta, peri-partum prolapse, other reproductive disorders (stillbirth and premature birth) was 1.46%, 0.32%, 0.82%, 0.64% and 0.73%, respectively. Retention of placenta (0.51%) and dystocia (0.23%) were more prevalent in summer, whereas the incidence of abortion were more prevalent in winter season (1.11%) followed by rainy season (0.52%). Reproductive disorders (pre mature birth, still birth & metritis) were more prevalent in winter (0.47%) followed by rainy (0.29%) and summer season (0.17%). Abortion (4.09 %) and retention of placenta (2.97%) was more prevalent in fifth parity and least in first parity (1.39% & 0.69%).Postpartum prolapse were more prevalent in fourth parity (4.20%) followed by fifth and more than fifth parity (1.86%). Other reproductive disorders like pre mature birth, still birth & metritis were more prevalent in first parity (2.43%) and least in fourth parity (0.70%). Overview of the results indicated that season and parity had impact on the occurrence of reproductive diseases or calving associated disorders in the Murrah buffaloes.
