Dr. Mandal graduated (B.V. Sc. & A.H.) from Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya, Mohanpur, West Bengal and postgraduated & Ph.D. in Livestock Production and Management (LPM) from ICAR-National Dairy Research Institute (NDRI), Karnal, Haryana. He started his career as a scientist under the aegis of Agricultural Research Service, ICAR and continuing. His research expertise is on climatic stress management of livestock, comfortable housing for animal welfare, micro-environment modulation of dairy cow barn, assessment of livestock behaviour & ethical animal production, cryo-preservation of bull semen, semen quality evaluation, methodology for libido & sexual behaviour assessment in bulls, thermo-adaptability indices, development of early age bull selection criteria, analysis of spermiogram of bulls, dissemination of superior germplasm for production enhancement, database management, data analysis for breed improvement projects. He was actively engaged in AICRP Projects of ICAR-Central Institute for Research on Cattle (CIRC), Meerut mandated for synthesis of a National Cattle breed ‘Frieswal’ in collaboration with Military Dairy Farms, Ministry of Defense. He has worked as PI /In-Charge of AICPR Project on Field Progeny Testing for crossbred dairy sire evaluation at ICAR-CIRC, Meerut in collaboration with GADVASU, Ludhiana, KVASU, Mannuthy, BAIF, Pune and GBPUA&T, Pantnagar. He has experiences on teaching of postgraduate students’ of Animal and Range Science Division, Debub University, Awasa, Ethiopia. In addition to research works, he is engaged in teaching and guiding of diploma, post-graduate & Ph. D students of Livestock Production and Management of ICAR-NDRI. He has supervised 2 postgraduate and 2 Ph.D. students as major advisor. He has published extensively over 75 research publications in refereed journals of national and internal repute, 20 popular articles, one book, 7 TV/Radio talk, attended 44 and imparted 40 Training/ Seminar/ Conference/ Symposium/ Workshop etc. He has affiliation with 5 National Professional Associations and Societies. He is recipient of few fellowship and awards of professional societies.
