Dr. Kalyan Sundar Das

Principal Scientist (Livestock Production and Management) at ICAR-Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute (ATARI), Kolkata INDIA

He is B.V. Sc. & A.H. from BCKV, Mohanpur, Nadia (W.B.) during 1995, M.V. Sc. and Ph.D. in Livestock Production and Management (LPM) during 1997 and 2001, respectively from Indian Veterinary Research Institute, Izatnagar, Bareilly (U.P.), Dr. Das started his career as Assistant Professor in the Department of LPM, College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Chowdhury Sarwan Kumar Himachal Pradesh Krishi Viswavidyalaya, Palampur, Himachal Pradesh during 2001. He moved to Department of LPM, College of Veterinary Science, Punjab Agricultural University/ Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana at the end of the year 2002. After 6 years of his service at Ludhiana, he served as Senior Scientist (LPM) at ICAR-Central Institute for Research on Buffaloes (CIRB), Regional Station- Bir Dosanjh, Nabha, District-Patiala (Punjab). During 2014, Dr. K. S. Das joined at ICAR-Agricultural Technology Research Institute (ATARI), Kolkata. He has more than 19 year experiences in the field of research, teaching and extension. At present, Dr. Das is engaged in technology application in the fields of agriculture, livestock and fisheries through Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVK) spread across the eastern states. He is actively involved in monitoring, providing technical guidance to the scientists of KVKs for successful implementation of different projects/ schemes funded by Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR). He handled twelve various research projects as PIs/ Co-PIs funded by State/ Central Government. Dr. K. S. Das developed heat stress management strategies for buffaloes. He has vast experience in management of cattle, buffalo, goat, pig, rabbit and laboratory animals. His research priority area is to improve the performance of various livestock species through scientific management. He was awarded with National Scholarship, IVRI Junior and Senior Research Fellowship during his studies. He received First prize in Best Poster Presentation in the National Seminar of Indian Society of Animal Production and Management (ISAPM) held at Anand, Gujarat during 2014. He has also been awarded with “Reviewer Excellence Award” by Agricultural Research Communication Centre (ARCC) for his significant contribution of reviewing scientific research papers. Dr. Das has very good capability of teaching and organized/ conducted a large number of training/ demonstration programmes for Scientists/ Veterinarians / men and women farmers/ rural youths. Besides, he shouldered the responsibilities of various administrative capabilities viz. In-Charge-Farms, In-Charge-Laboratories, Drawing and Disbursing Officer, In-Charge-Purchase, Member-Animal Judging Committee, Chairman/ Member-Selection and Screening Committee of various posts, Advisor and Advisory Committee of Students and so on. Dr. K. S. Das has 205 publications in his credit which include research papers (43), technical articles/ bulletins, invited lectures, abstracts, manuals, folders and e-publications of national and international repute. Apart from seven book chapters, he has authored one book and also edited five books. He was a paper setter, paper and thesis evaluator and External Examiner of many Agricultural Universities and Government Institutions. Dr. K. S. Das was a guide of one M.V.Sc. and co-guide of one M.V.Sc. and one Ph.D. student. He acted as Panelist, Co-Chairman, rapporteur of many seminar/ symposia/ conferences/ workshops/ meetings. He is one of the Board Members of Asian Journal of Dairy and Food Research, Livestock International, International Journal of Livestock Research, Veterinary Record etc. He has been working as a Reviewer of many Peer Reviewed National and International Journals e.g. Tropical Animal Health and Production, Journal of Buffalo Science, Veterinary World, Indian Journal of Animal Sciences, Indian Journal of Animal Research, Asian Journal of Dairy and Food Research and The Open Agriculture Journal for last few years. He is a life member of many professional societies like Indian Society of Animal Production and Management (ISAPM), Indian Society of Buffalo Development (ISBD), Indian Society of Animal Genetics and Breeding (ISAGB), Indian Veterinary Association (IVA), Punjab Veterinary Association (PVA) and Society of Fertilizer and Environment.
