The major field of specialization is Veterinary Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine. He is interested in teaching, research and extension activities, and presently heading the Department of Veterinary Public Health and Epidemiology, VCRI, Orathanadu, TANUVAS. He is teaching the subjects of Veterinary Preventive Medicine, Veterinary Epidemiology and Veterinary Public Health to students of B.V.Sc.&A.H.
He has research experience in epidemiology of Infectious Bursal Disease (IBD), Infectious Bovine Rhinotracheitis/Pustular Vulvovaginitis (IBR/IPV), Leptospirosis, Goatpox, Contagious ecthyma, Rabies, Toxoplasmosis, and Food-borne zoonosis. He also has research experiences on development of recombinant vaccine for rabies, immunization aspects of IBD in birds, molecular epidemiology on BoHV-1, leptospirosis in animals and humans, development of goatpox vaccine, toxoplasmosis in small ruminants, disease investigation, and prevention and control of livestock and poultry diseases.
Now, he has started working on “One Health Concept” jointly with public health department and NGOs through extension activities such as awareness and education of general public and school students about zoonotic diseases and public health issues on World Tuberculosis Day, World Water Day, World Environment Day, World Zoonosis Day and World Rabies Day.
