A study was conducted to evaluate the effect of varied levels of dietary crude protein and metabolizable energy on production performance between 28 to 43 weeks in Giriraja parent birds. A total of 288 Giriraja birds of 20 weeks age were assigned to nine treatment groups with four replicates in each group and having eight birds in each replicate (32 birds per treatment). Nine different experimental diets were formulated with three levels of energy, viz., 2700, 2800, and 2900 kcal metabolizable energy (ME/kg), each with three levels of crude protein (CP), viz.,15%, 16%, and 17%, respectively and Group T5 served as control fed with 16% protein and 2800 kcal energy as per BIS (2007) requirements. There was significant (P<0.05) difference among the treatments with respect to egg production, feed conversion ratio (FCR) and feed cost per production of dozen eggs. Based on the results of the present study, it can be concluded that the diet with 2800 kcal/kg ME and 15% (CP) is beneficial for eliciting optimum production performance in Giriraja parent birds and the low protein content in the diet also helps in reducing the nitrogen content in excreta and litter subsequently mitigate ammonia emission which causes respiratory disorders both in birds and people working in the poultry houses.
