Macronutrients (Carbohydrate, lipids, and protein) and micronutrients (Vitamins A and D) alter gene expression by changing metabolism, cell growth and differentiation. Macronutrients are source of energy as well as components for the synthesis of structural and regulatory components of cells. Micronutrients, like vitamins A and D have dramatic effects on gene expression through the regulation of intracellular receptors that bind promoters of specific genes. The carbohydrate, fat and protein play major role in gene expression.
