Abstract

The investigation was carried out on 60 Haringhata Black breed of chickens divided into five group viz. day old, 15 days, 30 days, 45 days and 60 days old with six birds of each sex in each age group. The present research about the morphological and morphometrical study of the esophagus and crop of the Haringhata Back chickens revealed that the esophagus was a long thin-walled muscular tube extending from the oropharynx to the proventriculus. Anatomically, the esophagus could be divided into a long cervical part and a comparatively shorter thoracic part. Before entering into the thoracic cavity, just at the thoracic inlet the esophagus formed analmost round ventral expansion called the crop. At an age of 15 days the average weight, length and diameter of the esophagus differed significantly between the male and female birds.
