Abstract

A one-year-old female chicken was presented to the veterinary clinic with a history of lameness and swelling in the foot region. Upon close examination, a swollen and necrotic area on the lower part of the foot was identified, and the condition was diagnosed as bumblefoot. Bumblefoot is a bacterial infection affecting the skin on the underside of the foot. If left untreated, it can spread up the leg, causing systemic infection and potentially leading to septicemia or even death. The infection typically begins with a minor cut, allowing bacteria to enter and leading to the formation of a black scab. This case highlights the successful therapeutic management of bumblefoot, which involved cleansing the affected area with a 0.1% potassium permanganate solution, surgically draining the pus, and administering antibiotics and supportive care to aid recovery.
