Abstract

The Schirmer tear test (STT) is one of the most essential tests for determining tear production potential and diagnosing dry eye illness. Because of its simplicity and lack of specialized equipment, the test can be performed in all medical facility. Despite the fact that, the Schirmer test has been available for more than a century, clinical trials have shown that it does not adequately evaluate treatment efficacy in human patients with dry eye due to its unpredictability. But the investigation of ophthalmic diagnostic criteria in veterinary, such as tear production measured with the Schirmer tear test (STT), will help veterinary ophthalmologists and farm animal veterinarians more accurately evaluate tear production and aid in the treatment of small ruminants.
